Reporting Issues
Found a bug? Have a suggestion? Heelr has a built-in feedback tool that routes your report to the right place automatically.
Using the Feedback Tool
All logged-in users can access the feedback tool from the Help page (available in the account menu on desktop, or the "More" drawer on mobile). Under "Report a Problem," tap Send Feedback.
You'll see two options:
- Report a Bug -- Something isn't working the way it should
- Share an Idea -- A suggestion for a new feature or improvement
Then describe what happened and tap Submit.
Where does my report go?
- Bug reports are sent to Sentry, our error tracking system. When you submit a bug, it automatically includes context like which page you were on and what happened recently in your session. This helps the development team reproduce and fix the issue faster.
- Feature ideas are collected through PostHog surveys and reviewed during planning. Your suggestion is linked to your account so we can follow up if we have questions.
What to Include in a Bug Report
Good bug reports help us fix things quickly. Try to include:
- What you were doing -- "I was trying to log a walk for Bear"
- What happened -- "The screen went blank after I tapped Submit"
- What you expected -- "I expected to see a success message and return to the dashboard"
- Your device -- iPhone, Android, or desktop browser
You don't need to include technical details -- just describe what you saw. The error tracking system captures the rest automatically.
Other Ways to Get Help
The feedback tool is for bugs and ideas. For general questions or troubleshooting:
- Check the docs -- Start with Troubleshooting for common issues
- Join the Discord -- Ask questions and connect with other shelters
- Email support -- Reach the team at support@heelr.app
All of these are accessible from the Help page in the app.
What Happens Next
- Bug reports appear in the development team's error tracking dashboard within seconds
- Feature ideas are batched and reviewed during planning cycles
- Fixes and improvements are documented in the Release Notes page (accessible from your account menu)
Urgent Issues
If something is preventing volunteers from logging activities or the dashboard is not loading:
- Submit the feedback through the app if possible
- Contact your shelter administrator directly
- Your admin can reach the Heelr support team at support@heelr.app for critical issues
System Status
You can check whether Heelr is experiencing any outages at status.heelr.app. A link to the status page is also available on the Help page.
