Admin Settings

The Admin Settings page is where shelter administrators configure Heelr's behavior. Navigate to Admin in the sidebar (desktop) or bottom navigation (mobile).

Admin Only

Only users with the Admin role can access this page.

Settings

Show Dashboard Photos

Toggle whether animal photos appear on dashboard cards. Disabling this can speed up page loads on slower connections.

Enable QR Labels

When enabled, staff can print QR code labels for kennels. Scanning a QR code opens the animal's detail page directly.

Enable TV Mode

Enables the large-screen TV display mode for shared monitors in the shelter. See TV Mode for details.

When TV Mode is enabled, an additional option appears:

  • TV Public Safe Mode -- Redacts certain animal details when the TV display is visible to the public.

Once TV Mode is on, the TV Display Tokens section appears in the Operations area below. See TV Mode for pairing details.

Enable Intelligence Dashboard

Toggles the Metrics and Intelligence Dashboard pages for staff and admin users. This option is only available once the shelter has enough activity data to make those views meaningful.

Default Language

Sets the shelter-wide default language for new users. Currently supports English and Spanish. Individual users can override this on their profile page.

Operations

Shelter Alerts

Admins can post a shelter-wide operational alert that appears at the top of the dashboard for all users. Use alerts for time-sensitive operational notices like weather closures, schedule changes, or safety reminders.

  • Only one alert can be active at a time
  • Alerts can be set to auto-expire at end of day (shelter timezone) or remain active until manually deactivated
  • Creating a new alert replaces any existing active alert
  • All users see the alert banner; only admins can create or deactivate alerts

Weekly Snapshot Email

When enabled, Heelr sends a weekly summary email to selected admin users with operational highlights from the past week. The email includes activity volume, behavior trends, and notable signals.

  • Enable/disable via the toggle in the Operations section
  • Select recipients from your shelter's admin users using the checkboxes
  • Send a test to preview the email (sends to your email only)
  • The last send status and timestamp are displayed below the controls

TV Display Tokens

When TV Mode is enabled, you can create and manage display tokens for pairing TV screens. See TV Mode for full setup details.

Research & Data

Opt in to Heelr's anonymized analytics pipeline. When enabled, Heelr creates anonymized, aggregated data views that can be used for shelter benchmarking and research. No names, notes, codes, or user identities are included -- all data is bucketed and hashed.

This is fully reversible. Disabling consent stops future data generation immediately.

Data Export

Export shelter data as CSV files:

ExportContents
AnimalsFull animal record list
ActivitiesComplete activity log
Intakes/OutcomesAdmission and outcome data
Research EpisodesAnonymized intake episodes (requires research consent)
Research Activity FactsAnonymized activity telemetry (requires research consent)

Setup & Onboarding

New shelters see a guided onboarding flow that walks admins through initial setup:

  1. Shelter basics -- Confirm name, timezone, and dashboard defaults
  2. Add animals -- Add your first dog or cat manually, or import a roster via CSV
  3. Add teammate -- Invite a staff member or volunteer (or skip)
  4. First activity -- Log one activity so the board shows real data

Each step tracks a milestone. You can skip steps and return later. Once all steps are complete (or you tap Skip setup), the onboarding card disappears from the Admin page.

If onboarding was skipped but not all steps were completed, you'll see a "Finish setup" banner on the Admin page. Tap Mark Reviewed to dismiss it once you've confirmed everything is configured.

Support Reference

Displays your shelter's name and slug for use when contacting Heelr support.
